YouTube Video Ideas for Business: Stop Brainstorming, Start Stealing Proof
Brainstorming is how business channels die. You sit in a room, invent ten topics that sound smart, film them, and nobody watches, because nobody was asking.
At GenSpeak we never film an idea we can't prove demand for. Here is the exact research process, plus a starter list you can use today.
Rule one: demand first, ideas second
An idea is a guess. Demand is evidence that real people are already searching, clicking, and commenting about a topic. Your job is not to be creative. It is to find where demand already exists and serve it better than anyone else in your niche.
Where demand hides (search in this order)
- Your own channel and content. What already worked, even slightly? What questions do clients ask on sales calls?
- Direct competitors. What are people selling to your exact audience making that works?
- Adjacent niches. Same buyer psychology, different topic. A format that works for accountants often works for fractional CFOs.
- Comments. The richest source and the most ignored. Procedure below.
- Search suggestions. Type your topic into YouTube and Google and note what autocomplete offers. Autocomplete is a live poll of what people actually type.
- Sales calls and objections. Every objection you hear twice is a video.
- Google Trends. The only source that catches what is heating up right now instead of what already worked.
The comment mining procedure
This takes 30 minutes and outperforms hours of brainstorming:
- Open the two or three biggest channels in your niche.
- Open their most recent three to five videos.
- Read the top comments on each.
- Log recurring questions, frustrations, and requests. Anything viewers say the video should have covered.
A question that appears under multiple videos is demand proof. Save the viewer's exact wording. It becomes your title, your hook, and your lead magnet copy later.
The outlier method
Raw view counts lie. A big channel gets 100K views on everything, so 100K tells you nothing. Look for outliers: videos that beat their own channel's normal performance by 3x or more.
An outlier means the topic and packaging pulled harder than the channel's audience baseline. That is a signal you can use. For each outlier, capture the title, channel, views, the channel's typical views, how recent it is, and the format pattern. Then ask the quality questions:
- Is it recent, ideally the last few months?
- Is the structure repeatable, or did it depend on a one-off event?
- Does that channel's audience overlap with your buyer?
- Are similar videos still working, or did the wave pass?
Remix, don't copy. Take the proven structure and packaging, rebuild it with your topic, your proof, and your buyer. Watched side by side, nobody should tell the two videos are related.
Competitor gap analysis
Outliers show what works. Gaps show what's missing. Put a competitor's last 20 uploads next to your buyer's real questions and list:
- Questions the buyer asks that no upload answers.
- Topics covered too shallow, or too advanced, for your buyer.
- Fears and desires no video touches.
One warning: a gap can exist because nobody wants the topic. Gap plus demand proof is an opportunity. Gap without demand proof is a trap. Run every gap idea back through the demand sources above.
The buyer filter
Before an idea makes the calendar, it answers one question: does this attract buyers or just viewers? An idea tied to money, status, fear, or time, aimed at the person who signs contracts, beats a clever idea aimed at everyone.
Starter ideas for B2B channels
Grouped by funnel stage. Swap in your niche:
Top of funnel (reach):
- The biggest shift happening in [your industry] right now
- Why most [buyer's industry] companies waste money on [common purchase]
- [Known tool or approach] is dying. Here's what's replacing it
Middle of funnel (trust):
- Exactly how we [core process] for clients, step by step
- [Your service] pricing explained: what everything actually costs
- The 5 mistakes we see in every [buyer's asset] we audit
Bottom of funnel (calls):
- Case study: how [client type] got [specific result] in [timeframe]
- [Your service] vs [alternative]: which one fits your situation
- What working with us actually looks like, month by month
Every one of these still needs demand proof and packaging work before filming. For how ideas become a coherent plan, read the strategy guide. For turning an idea into a watchable video, see script writing.
