How Often Should a Business Post on YouTube? Less Than You Think

Short answer: for a business channel, one good video a week. Not daily. Often not even twice a week.

The "post more" advice comes from entertainment channels, where volume feeds an algorithm-driven flywheel. A business channel plays a different game: it needs the right 400 people watching, not a million random ones. Here's the reasoning, and what to do with the time you save.

Consistency is the wrong metric

The streak itself does nothing. YouTube does not reward you for showing up; it rewards videos people choose to click and keep watching. Ten rushed videos teach the algorithm you're skippable. One well-packaged video teaches it you're worth recommending.

What actually compounds is a practice loop, not a posting streak:

  1. Create the best video you can.
  2. Analyze honestly: why did this one underperform? Which word in the title? Was the topic proven or guessed?
  3. Learn one thing.
  4. Repeat.

It's practice, like piano. Reps only count when you study the tape between them. Posting daily leaves no time to study anything.

The math nobody shows you

Business channels don't need big numbers, they need the right ones. YouTube educator Ed Lawrence runs a mid six-figure education business on roughly 10,000 views a video, and cites a niche client running a $100K-a-month business off videos getting 300 to 400 views. The views were worth roughly $64 per thousand because the right people were watching and every video had a next step.

At that scale, one video a week that reaches 400 buyers beats seven videos that reach 4,000 randoms. Volume is a substitute for aim, and aim is cheaper.

What one-a-week makes possible

A weekly cadence leaves room for the work that actually moves the needle:

  • Demand research before choosing the topic, so you never film a guess. (The process.)
  • Packaging: title and thumbnail drafted and stress-tested before the script exists.
  • A real script that holds attention. (How we write them.)
  • The conversion path: lead magnet, description links, end screen that routes somewhere.

When to post more

Two honest reasons to increase cadence:

  • You have a working system and adding volume adds pipeline, not just noise.
  • You're adding a second format with a different job, like Shorts clipped from long-form to feed discovery.

"We haven't grown in a month" is not a reason to post more. It's a reason to diagnose packaging and topic selection.

The founder time budget

Filming is the only part that needs your face. Batch it: with real scripts ready, a month of weekly videos is about 2 hours of recording. Research, scripting, editing, thumbnails, and distribution are delegable process. That split, founder films, team runs the machine, is exactly how our clients ship every week without YouTube becoming a second job.

Start with the strategy, pick a weekly slot, and protect the quality bar with your life.
